I’m not injured.” Athlen changed the subject, his large eyes catching the scant light and reflecting the color of honey. “I’m sore. I’m not used to being on my legs this long.” He wiggled his toes. The chain clanked against the floor. “You’re magic.” the Plot here was deeper, the adventures, the excitements, the motives, the reasons, the relations, not merely a rom-com in a fantasy land. though the first quarter was a little slow, but the characters were good & it was intriguing to wait & see when my theories come true. How could he prove himself to his family if he couldn’t keep his magic under control in situations where he shouldn’t even be anxious? How could Garrett trust him? And he’s a merman. That’s right. A merman. I legit thought this was a prince-pirate romance. But it’s not. The overall enjoyment level of In Deeper Waters is very high. It took a little while for me to be fully engrossed in the story, but once I got into it, the book was immensely enjoyable! All in all, this novel is an exceptionally refreshing read that’s perfect for spring! It’s the epic high fantasy you’ve been waiting for!

Sixteen-year-old Prince Taliesin of Harth is fourth in line for the crown, and he also has a closely guarded secret: Like his denounced great-grandfather, he has the rare magical ability to conjure fire. While he and his siblings are on his traditional coming-of-age tour, they come across a burning ship, a mysterious trunk of golden coins, and Athlen, a handsome young man in fetters. Tal is drawn to the enigmatic lad’s company and is swept up in a machination involving his great-grandfather’s legacy, royal marriages and alliances, an assassination plot, and the reality of merfolk. Elements of the story bring to mind “The Little Mermaid.” Tal’s pansexuality is a non-issue, structural misogyny seems to only exist in some kingdoms, and while imperialism and people of different skin tones exist, there don’t seem to be racialized categories attached to power (dark-haired Tal is described as having tanned skin while Athlen is pale). Lukens stays true to the conventions of the royal fantasy genre while avoiding the sexism and heteronormativity often baked into those worlds, with a depiction of romantic and sexual tension reminiscent of fan fiction. the merchant fleet, compared to the Royal Navy’s 50,758 men killed in action plus 820 listed missing. Horrifically Palmer, Roger (December 13, 2021). " "Deep Water" Moving To Hulu". What's on Disney Plus . Retrieved December 13, 2021. Sweet is a word that encompasses this story to a T. The characters have such heart, its truly hard not to love them. Tal’s compassion was infectious, and Athlen’s curiosity put a smile on my face from the very start. The romance was heartwarming and genuine; Tal and Athlen’s relationship is definitely what makes this book so wonderful (as well as Tal’s bond with his brothers)!

That’s not a promising start,” Garrett said. He nodded toward his sailors, who were gathered in the room. “Everyone out. Find him a shirt and boots.” Then he asked the boy, “Do you know where the key is?” Tal was just so innocent and naïve in the beginning of the book. It hurt to read about how sheltered hes been his entire life. Please.” His gaze darted from Tal to the stairs. A breeze ruffled his copper hair. “If you set me free, I’ll tell you everything. You know I wasn’t one of them, and they had me for weeks. I know what they were planning. I know where they got the gold.” He looked up to Tal, his eyes wet with unshed tears, his expression pleading. “Please.”

Athlen whipped his head to stare at Tal, mouth stretching into a small, pleased grin. His cheeks dimpled. “Magic,” he said softly. I know you want to protect me, but I don’t need protecting. I’d rather be in danger with you than left behind” Athlen jumped to his feet and seized Tal’s hand in both of his own. Tal resisted the urge to jerk away, instead stilling, muscles tense as Athlen turned Tal’s palm over in inspecting it with a somber intensity. With a furrowed brow, he ran the calloused pads of his fingertips over the smooth skin between Tal’s fingers and along the underside of his wrist, his touch unusually cool. No one had touched Tal like this before, with impropriety and wonder, not even his family, and his heart pounded in his ears. Athlen lifted Tal’s hand closer, his breath warm and rhythmic on Tal’s skin, before he pressed a kiss to the palm. His eyelashes fluttered against Tal’s fingers, and Tal exhaled in staccato.

Of course, Your Highness,” Shay said, bowing shortly again, her pink lips twisting up into a smile. “You know your limits. I apologize for questioning them.”Eugene Damblans’ illustration for the French Petit Journal shows German “barbarity” as U boat sailors shoot the fishermen of a torpedoed sardine trawler out of the rigging (May 1917) I broke the fetter. He said he’d tell us about the gold and the ship if we freed him. He told me how the ship was destroyed beforehand.” Garrett’s expression remained unchanged. “He’s been adrift for three days,” Tal continued, feeling the inexorable need to justify himself, to reassure Garrett of his decisions and his use of magic. “He needs food and water and—” The breeze ruffled Tal’s hair as they headed toward the southernmost port of their kingdom. The first day of his tour had been unexpectedly eventful. Suddenly he was to oversee the well-being of a strange boy and procure information from him about a chest of gold and a ghost ship. And his magic had flared despite all the training he’d endured over the last several years to keep it a secret. He flexed his fingers and sighed. The main characters where especially likeable. Tal was so nice and genuine. From the start I could tell I’d love him! Athlen was also very wholesome. At first, I wasn’t particularly fond of him. However, as the story progressed, I found myself absolutely adoring his character! The sound of footsteps descending on the ladder broke the moment, and the boys sprang apart. Tal’s cheeks flushed as red as the setting sun and felt equally as hot.

I didn’t really have prior knowledge of the plot going in—I simply loved the themes hinted to in the synopsis and had major heart-eyes for that book cover. To be honest, I think a limited knowledge of the story probably worked in my favour, as I was able to be wowed and excited as the action and romance unfolded. I think Lukens used pop culture references in their stories, like small seeds; here "mermaids" vibes, & in their other book, "Merthur" & building their world & plot around the concept, however changed it so they're not exactly a retelling, & only had the vibes. And can you make that promise?” Athlen asked. “Or”—he pointed to Garrett—“are those his decisions to make?” Hush!” Tal said, voice shrill. He looked around, despite knowing the hold was empty save for them. He leaned close. “Don’t.” Prince Tal has long awaited his coming-of-age tour. After spending most of his life cloistered behind palace walls as he learns to keep his forbidden magic secret, he can finally see his family’s kingdom for the first time. His first taste of adventure comes just two days into the journey, when their crew discovers a mysterious prisoner on a burning derelict vessel.I’m Tal,” he said. Not Prince Taliesin of Harth. Not Tally, youngest son of the queen. Not Tal, last mage of the royal line. “I’m going to be looking after you.” the year 2000 that the Merchant Navy were represented as an official service in Cenotaph commemorations. Moreover, the side characters where one of the best parts of the book! I love how each and every one of Tal’s siblings had their own distinct personalities. Kest was courageous and kind, much like Tal. On the other hand, Garret was spontaneous and outgoing. His sisters where also strong and resilient. Adding on to that, I really loved how In Deeper Waters contains such powerful women. From Tal’s bodyguard, to a fiery sea captain, women can do it all! Don's wife Kelly tells Vic that her husband and Melinda have been accusing him of Charlie's murder. Vic discovers they have hired a private investigator to follow him and confronts Don in front of Don's family. Melinda reconnects with an old boyfriend, Tony, and Vic overhears their conversation suggesting they will move to Brazil, taking Trixie with them. She invites Tony to dinner with Vic and takes him to her bedroom, furthering Vic's jealousy.
