Overdressed33 Camel hat Bought for the colour, camel, to go with a scarf I already have. Pluses are nice shade of camel, feels soft and comfortable and reasonably warm, and best of all no pom pom which has been a hard thing to find of late. (These I dislike and personally think they belong only on young children’s hats. ) Negatives would be the material isn’t the best, and although the price reflects this, imo the price is nevertheless a bit high for what it is. For a turned brim, I’d weave in on the ‘front side’ because it’ll be turned up to show the ‘inside’.

If you’re already knitting on DPNs or using magic loop, no needle switching is required. Here’s what it looks like if you switch to the Magic Loop method for the final decreases. You’ll notice I’ve got only two markers in the work now. This is because markers will just get lost if you leave them where the cord is pulled out or where the needles are. Instead of using a marker, I just know that those two spots act as markers. Here I’ve got my stitches on DPNs for the last decreases. You’ll notice I’ve got fewer markers here. Since markers just fall off the ends of DPNs, I’ve distributed my stitches with half on the first needle (with a marker in the middle) and 1/4 of the stitches on the other two needles. I treat the ends of the needles as markers as well, knowing I’l need to decrease there, too. Close the top of the hat dottyash Excellent quality Bought 2 for Christmas Presents. I liked them - soft and good quality. I chose grey being neutral for my friends but if I bought for myself I'd go for teal! Good price too. k2, *sl 1 wyif, k2 tog, k1. Repeat from * to 2 stitches before the marker. sl 1 wyif, k2 tog with first stitch of next round.] If this is your first time knitting in the round, we suggest casting on with a 16″ circular needle and then using either DPNs or a long circular needle for Magic Loop at the top of the hat.Secondly, in our experience, head sizes are both wildly different (8 year old to 8 year old, for example), but at the same time surprisingly similar (my 4 and 5 year olds could always happily wear my adult size S hats!). For the four decreasing rounds, you need to pay close attention, so pause the Netflix. And I recommend you do all four rounds without any interruptions if you can. ribbing is really fun, a bit faster to work, and a little bit stretchier than 1×1 ribbing – so it’s quite forgiving when it comes to size. I can almost guarantee your hat will fit if you make it in 2×2 rib. Here we’ve got a 2×2 rib in Brooklyn Tweed Shelter in Northern Lights. The ribs are a little bigger in 2×2, giving a different effect.

Lightdays Very warm This hat is very warm, the fabric is soft and the fit is good, it's snug enough to stay on and in place without being uncomfortably tight. I think it looks better on than it does in the pictures and it's a higher quality product than I was expecting based on the images. There are a couple more techniques you’ll need before you can call this lovely hat DONE. At the crown, the pattern uses a double decrease; in the 2×2 rib hat you’ll work a sl2-k1-p2ssoand in the 1×1 or 3×1 ribs you’ll work a sl1-k2tog-psso is a double decrease method that is called for in the final decrease rounds. In the 2×2 ribbed version, you’ll also have to p2tog before the end. On decrease rounds, you’ll need to work an ssk decrease on one side of each marker and a k2tog decrease on the other side. In between, you’ll continue in pattern, which means that you’ll keep the columns of knits and purls going – always knitting the knits and purling the purls. Here is a close up after I’ve worked one decrease round. The second stitch on the left hand needle is my SSK. Once you’ve worked a few decrease rounds, you can start to see the decrease lines appear on either side of the markers. Change to DPNs (or Magic Loop) when you must! that big knit stitch — is in the middle of your three knit stitches if you are on the first/knitting row, and is the stitch you are slipping on the second/purl row. Now you know where you are and can keep on rolling! All this to say, this is not a pattern for a newbie knitter, or for someone who doesn’t like detailed pattern work. Once you get in the groove of the alternating rounds, it isn’t too demanding. ribbing is classy, crisp, and takes sweet forever. But then you’ll wear this hat forever, so…worth it? Francine is modeling a crisp 1×1 rib hat in DK weight in Ritual Dyes Marona in Forsythia.

If you’ve knit a hat before, you’ll already know your preferred method for knitting a head-sized tube in the round. If you haven’t, you should know there are a few different methods. You can use circular needles or DPNs. If you’re a fan of circular needles, you might use a 16″ circular needle, a long circular for the Magic Loop method, or two circulars for the majority of the hat. Top it with a Faux Fur Pom Pom: Sometimes a luxe detail can make all the difference in adding a pro finish to your crochet projects.

One other thing: the first stitch of the round, the one just after the marker, tends to be looser than the others, so give it an extra tug when you knit it. It’ll look better. It pretty much GUARANTEES that the hat will fit the recipient. Folding it up an inch more or less isn’t a big deal, so you’ve got more wiggle room with sizing. Cast on 120(132) stitches. This pattern is worked over a multiple of 4 stitches. If you want to adjust the size up or down, four stitches equal slightly more than half an inch in the pattern. Add Some Slouch: To create an even slouchier hat or longer brim, simply increase the number of chains in the foundation row of your hat. Important: Make sure your cast-on isn’t toooo tight. It has to stretch over a head, right? Cast on and ready to rib! After a few rounds, you can start to see your ribbing form! Just keep ribbing, ribbing, ribbing Like I said before… the Basic Beanie is NOT a pattern to be underestimated! I think I have already knit it six or eight times… and I usually HATE knitting the same thing twice (except, of course, when I love it). Basic basic basic basic… you get the idea, right?!atropos Christmas beenie hat Present for my brother, hope he likes it. Looks good quality and smart. Join the stitches for knitting in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches and placing a marker at the beginning. Either before or after you get started, you will need to decide whether to work a folded brim (this is really the way to go, trust us!) or a single brim (maybe there’s some reason to do this, but Alexa and I find it hard to justify!). So knit the folded brim. Just do it.
