The image never looked blurry or smeared, and while the screen did struggle with bright highlights in dark scenes (it seemed as though the upscaling technology warped some of these brighter images), SD content was very watchable, especially in the TV’s Standard mode. The C2 passed all our tests, producing pictures that had greater impact, but still precisely followed the PQ curve. While there are certainly reasons that you might want to opt for a rival, LG's OLEDs have been the go-to premium TV of choice for most people for years now. The newly expanded game hub is excellent, popping up when the Settings button is pressed, and offering all the key game-related information and controls in a clearly laid-out interface.

Watching The Bidding Room, colours are strongly represented – and in the close-up of people’s faces, there’s a decent amount of detail for the C2 to dig up. Very occasionally it’s possible to see that a tiny bit of fine detail and subtle shading is being washed out by the C2 in the very brightest parts of the image (some clouds for example) but this is otherwise all gain and no pain.

Standard and Eco give you an anytime viewing mode that looks decent enough for most types of content (although very colorful scenes did look overly noisy). LG has extracted as much performance from its C-series as possible: the evo OLED generates more brightness, motion is better, upscaling is excellent, the design is improved, and the gaming features are superb. The LG G1 was one of last year’s very best and most desirable TVs, and the C2 is better and more affordable. It sits in the middle of the South Korean manufacturer’s OLED lineup and is powered by its new Alpha9 Gen5 processor with AI Picture Pro, AI Sound Pro, and Brightness Booster technology.

inputs that support 4K at 120Hz, HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), and eARC in the case of input number two. The good news is that, unlike its predecessor, the LG C2 OLED has an all-new screen size: 42 inches. inputs, extensive gaming features and blink-and-you’ll-miss-it response times make the C2 the perfect choice for next-gen gamers. We are reviewing the 65-inch version of the LG C2 and this was purchased from a retailer and is not a manufacturer supplied review sample. Also as before, the new C2 and G2 support HGiG for greater HDR accuracy with games, and there's a Dolby Vision Game mode for Xbox Series X/S gamers to take advantage of.

Dolby Vision Gaming supports 4K/120Hz and adapts the HDR performance of compatible games for better luminance (brightness) and black levels.

Since LG TV's do not include a DTS decoder, the C2 OLED doesn't fully support for IMAX enhanced content. If you engage it, you do noticeably increase the brightness of the image which affects the shadows and mid tone by brightening up those areas. The smart TV system is the now-familiar WebOS and from this year onwards the version running on the TVs will feature the year of release, so on the C2, this is WebOS 22.

There are buttons to take you straight to Netflix, Disney Plus, Prime Video, and Rakuten TV, and buttons to summon Google Assistant and Alexa. This year sees the C2 carry the brighter OLED evo panel that LG brought to the market in 2021 with its G1 OLED. Standard mode is better, since it ditches processing for a more natural and smoother tone, while Cinema is best for films, finding more energy and applying processing to create depth. In a 24p movie, four frames are artificially created in between the original frames, increasing the frame count to 120.The LG G2 OLED is the step up from the LG C2 OLED, offering a slimmer design that's meant to be wall-mounted and an even brighter OLED panel.
