When using Cam Link 4Kor Game Capture HD60 S+in OBS Studio on macOS, the audio capture needs to be set manually. Audio is not captured from capture devices automatically like in OBS Studio for Windows. To solve this issue, A tool called Elgato Sound Captureis available. Elgato Sound Capturewill capture and split the PCs audio out over the HDMI output of the PC, and to a second output such as headphones. I do NOT recommend the Elgato 4K60 S+. Not in its current state for sure, but maybe not ever considering its unpredictability and giant price tag. Imagine taking it to a local tournament to record off-stream matches and getting home to realize half the footage was ruined. Well if you get this card, you won’t have to imagine!

Elgato 4K60 S+ Capture card without a PC?! 4K 60FPS HDR | Elgato 4K60 S+

HDCP needs to be turned off for Elgato Game Capture 4K60 S+ to be able to capture from a PlayStation. But being the only external capture card on the market that can capture 4K60 and HDR footage does allow you to record some genuinely spectacular footage to play with and share. The stand-alone recording is a tempting proposition, yet the 4K60 S+ prices itself out of the competition for most content creators. To record the full 120Hz signal into a 120fps video, other software such as OBS Studio must be used and configured to record at 120fps. These recommendations may help when Elgato Game Capture 4K60 S+ is used and there is no signal or USB related errors. Elgato Game Capture devices such as the HD60 Sand HD60 S+have analog audio input ports. These devices can capture sound either via HDMI or the analog port.

EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) is a small configuration file that is stored on devices that take in video signals such as TVs, monitors, and capture cards.

There is a fantastic blog post by Mystery Box which is very thorough and covers everything needed to know about editing, grading and delivering HDR using DaVinci Resolve, more than is needed to edit a gameplay video - https://www.mysterybox.us/blog/2016/10/27/hdr-video-part-5-grading-mastering-and-delivering-hdr By default, the bitrate for a 4K (3840x2160p) input is 80,000 Kbps or 80Mbps. This equals about 36GB/per hour of recording. The next option for Output (Scaled) Resolution is what is ultimately recorded to your computer’s disk or sent to the streaming service. If you’re on a slower internet connection or a weaker computer, you can lower the Output (Scaled) Resolution to 1280x720 for example. Play in 1440p144 or 1080p240 on your gaming PC and high refresh rate monitor while capturing on your Windows desktop PC.

The 120Hz signal will be converted to 60fps during recording. To record audio from a PC, the PC needs to output sound over the HDMI output of the graphics card. This is perhaps compounded by the fact that you can't turn it off without fully unplugging it. Elgato noted to me that the 4K60S+ falls into standby mode when it hasn't been used for 15 minutes, but I found even in this mode, it would remain kind of warm, despite using only a reported 2w of power while standing by. It's not a deal-breaker by any means, but it's worth being aware of.

Still need help?

Unplug the headphones from the controller and the PlayStation 4 will output sound to the capture card. Cold booting the PC means flushing the PC of all power, and then turning it on. This resets internal components. Looking at the hardware there are some key differences that can affect which you buy. The most obvious is that the AVerMedia Live Gamer Bolt requires Thunderbolt 3 to operate at all. If you don't have it, you can't use it, and that rules out a number of PCs, including virtually anything running on an AMD Ryzen CPU.
