Description

The Jolly Postman or Other People's Letters is an interactive children's picture book by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. The innovative project required five years to complete, and much discussion with both the publisher Heinemann and the printer before it was issued in 1986. The first subject heading assigned by WorldCat is "Toy and movable books". Little, Brown published a U.S. edition in the same year. With easy-to-digest content, children can carry on living the tale through lovely spin-offs of the original story - it’ll be a story that never ends!

There are lots of rhymes in the story; see how many you can spot together. Say them together and learn some new ones. Print off the nursery rhyme book– your child can illustrate the rhymes they know to create their very own nursery rhyme book. Ideas for The Jolly Christmas Postman Planning for Year 1 pupils: Janet Ahlberg was a commended runner up for the 1986 Greenaway Medal [7] [b] and she won the 1991 Greenaway for the sequel. [5] The annual award by the Library Association then recognised the year's best children's book illustration by a British subject. Off through the snow the Postman rides, with more than a meal in his insides. He’s all shook up and all of a-quiver, and it’s not just the cold that makes him shiver. There’s a letter he’d rather not deliver…

Plan a party and work out problems such as; “how many buns will we need if 4 people are coming and they want 2 buns each?” The National Literacy Trust is a registered charity no. 1116260 and a company limited by guarantee no. 5836486 registered in England and Wales and a registered charity in Scotland no. SC042944. Such a simple idea of a postman delivering letter to various classic fairytale characters but with the added bonus of various surprises in each envelope. For the 'Something a little different...' section, your pupils could role-play being at the post office and posting their Christmas cards. I absolutely love this book, another favourite for my sister and I when we were younger. The author creates a unique story through joining classic fairytales and their characters such as little red riding hood and the three little pigs into one storyline. The author uses a similar style of writing along with rhyme which adds to the effect of the text.
