The series includes 8- and 24-port Gigabit Ethernet and Fast Ethernet models and a 48-port Gigabit Ethernet switch. Its been the mainstay of the LAN in my home for well over a year, running 4 VLANs and a 2 port LAG uplink to my 10Gig switch (on the optical ports). You are also of some risk of ground potential differences between the two buildings - probably not too much risk if the barn is on the same electric service as the house but there is some. This switch is managed, so it takes a quick minute to connect a pc or mac via LAN RJ45 Cat5 cable to setup the IP address.
