Description

It's set in a sort of fairy tale land, and Gobbolino can talk to people and do the dishes and so forth, so it's kind of irrelevant that he's even a cat. Blessed with some magic, Gobbolino is able to use this to his advantage at times, but superstition follows him wherever he goes.

He tries to be a normal kitchen cat, first at a farm, then an orphanage, then the mayor's house, but his magic always gets him into trouble. The illustrations by Paul Howard are soft pencil sketches, giving the tale an old-fashioned quality that suits it very well. But in the end, after much wandering about and meeting all sorts of characters along the way, he loses his ability to perform magic and is finally accepted as a proper kitchen cat, and he can happily give lots of affection to his new owners. He escapes to look for a kitchen home but is distrusted everywhere he goes and blamed for mysterious happenings, such as the farmer’s milk turning sour and the orphanage children’s gruel turning into chocolate. What made most of this story fun to read was the somewhere-inbetween-ness of Gobbolino, the kind-hearted witch's cat with blue eyes and one white paw.

Initially distraught, he soon realises that he can now pursue his own dreams, and embarks on a great adventure to seek out his heart's desire.

Sometimes, we feel that we don't belong--that there is something more out there for us and I admire Gobbolino's desire to break away from what's expected of him. Still, the charm of Gobbolino and the interest of his varied adventures, as well as the deep questions that the book raises and embodies, are more than enough to compensate for the equivocal ending. She wrote and illustrated over sixty books for children with the most notable being Gobbolino the Witch’s Cat and The Adventures of the Little Wooden Horse. Gobbolino, a witch's feline endowed with unusual powers, is a charming little kitten who faces an identity crisis.Câte persoane nu au și acum de pătimit din cauza culorii pielii, a familiei din care provin sau a locului în care s-au născut? A story book I'll share as it think it's a wonderful story to be read aloud on a dark stormy bedtime! His supernatural powers finally removed, Gobbolino finds himself reunited with the very family whose father wanted to drown him at the beginning of the book for being a witch's cat!

Like many good children's tales, the story of Gobbolino will give younger readers cheers and make them wonder. He will find some people to live with, and all goes well, until they discover he is a witch's cat and will chase him out and on to the next chapter where the exact same thing will happen with some new people. The witch puts a spell on him, removing his magical powers, and he finds his way back to the farm where he began his journey, his coat having faded to an unrecognisable tabby.

Although everyone he meets likes him at first, being a witch’s cat means he often gets himself into some tricky situations. Born to a witch's cat, Gobbolino wants nothing more than to find a home amongst the warmth and bustle of a kitchen. In 1984 Puffin published The Further Adventures of Gobbolino and the Little Wooden Horse, a joint sequel to Gobbolino and to Adventures of the Little Wooden Horse (1938). I've owned kittens, they grow very fast, and his sister certainly becomes an adult cat in the same time, but Gobbolino remains stunted, kittenish-- immature. Sweet story about a witch’s cat who wants to be an ordinary kitchen cat, and all of his adventures on the journey to find a forever home.
