Description

Like all hardware with ROG Aura light, the GT-AXE16000's lighting is programmable — you can change the colors and do all sorts of patterns with it, or turn it off completely via the web interface or the Asus mobile app. The anecdotal test was done on a laptop some 30 feet (10 m) from the router, using its 5GHz (or 6GHz) band, over a 10Gbps Fiber-optic line. When we increased the distance to 30 feet away on a higher floor of the router, the speed dropped off quite a bit to 72.

There’s also two USB ports for file sharing features if you wish to use the router as a NAS file storage server. As for security cameras, get a Synology NAS server — more in this post, or you can get an Unifi controller just for that. On the other hand, this router is overkill if you have sub-Gigabit Internet and modest needs for local connections.

We supply the latest technology solutions to organisations of all sizes across education, public and private sectors, helping thousands of organisations along their own digital transformation journeys. WiFi 6E uses OFDMA technology to deliver increased WiFi signal range and better coverage by dividing each wireless channel into smaller sub-channels. Dong's note: I first published this piece on January 6, 2022, as a news piece when Asus first announced the GT-AXE16000 and updated it on June 16, 2022, as a first impression of the actual hardware.

GHz, we achieved 122 fps with just the game playing, our best test of any configuration, confirming the weak Ethernet performance. Obviously it should be ones that take advantage of the PoE as that is one feature I like of the Ubiquity that we do not have to power the APs from mains, just the ethernet cable is needed. which is backwards from the way they are shown on my RT-AC5300 and in the configuration… Asus bugs or oversights? This is a distinct nod to the gaming community, but thankfully the LEDs can be disabled (for use in a bedroom setting, for example). On top of that, as a router with three Multi-Gig ports, it's a new best remember of a mesh with Multi-Gig wired backhaul. Thanks to the web interface, the GT-AXE16000 shares the same standard setup process, as I detailed in this post on building a home network from scratch. If I move to 5 x AXE16000 to support some 55-60 devices with the same ethernet constraints (ie 3 wired) do you see this as an upgrade or indulgence! The GT-AXE16000 uses a horizontal design in a larger body, which has become Asus’ design formula for its flagship routers.

Yep but I couldn’t “see” either of the 5GHz bands (different SSIDs) at any of the nodes but I could “see” both at the router. Generally, Multi-Gig home and SMB routers, including top-tier ones, do not have enough to deliver true 10Gbps (10,000Mbps) throughputs. The GT-AXE16000 shares the same non-detachable antenna design as the GT-AXE11000, but the antennas now have bigger and stronger joints — they feel much less flimsy than those of the predecessor. GHz, two 5 GHz* bands, and 6 GHz — with 160 MHz channels in the 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands to bring you the fastest speeds possible. Tom's Hardware is part of Future US Inc, an international media group and leading digital publisher. However, this is not a big surprise considering Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E share the same speed grade — the latter only had an edge in DFS-unfriendly areas. My node is an ASUS AC-5300 triband router one floor above the 16000, what would settings would you recommend for the best connection? That’s a little slow compared to the best performers and mesh systems, but certainly better than your average router. If I link them with a 50 foot cat6 wired backhaul, would the setup be much better than a pair of ASUS GT-AXE11000’s or a pair of ZenWifi Pro ET12’s? I haven’t really tried the router with 10Gbps stuff, Richard, and I didn’t expect it to deliver full 10Gbps.
