About this deal

Entitled "The Making of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang," the DVD is narrated by Sally Ann Howes, who played Truly Scrumptious in the original film, and gives viewers behind-the-scenes access to one of the West End's biggest hits. With some great songs and of course the fantastic flying, floating car this is one of th greatest family movies. Throw in a prim and proper female lead and two children (all from England), and the comparisons to Disney's 1964 classic are inevitable.

Left off from the old Special Edition DVD are two set-top games and a storybook, features that surely won't be missed. Songs: "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang", "Truly Scrumptious", "Hushabye Mountain", "Me Ol' Bamboo", "Toot Sweets", "The Roses of Success", "Lovely Lonely Man", "You Two", "Chu-Chi Face", "Posh! I agree with many reviewers that it COULD have been a little shorter, but what with the cast, the great music, and the fun -- not to mention Neuschwanstein Castle! An article about Emett that appeared in Time magazine in 1976 mentioned his work on the film, saying that no term other than "'Fantasticator' [.When you purchase through links on our site we may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you. The choreography by Poppins' Marc Breaux and Dee Dee Wood is also impressive, particularly on "Toot Sweets" and "Me Ol' Bamboo. The last of the vintage featurettes, "The Potts Children" (3:05) looks at child actors Heather Ripley and Adrian Hall. Perseverance Records re-released the Kritzerland double-CD set in April 2013, with new liner notes by John Trujillo and a new booklet by James Wingrove.

We see them fooling around with the other actors in between takes and even some of their (staged) time exploring the German countryside. What makes this particularly unique is that three of the demos are for songs that didn't make it into the film. At the 41st Academy Awards, the film's title song was nominated for Best Song – Original for the Picture.

Filmink stated: "It's a gorgeous looking movie with divine sets, a fabulous cast and cheerful songs; it's also, like so many late '60s musicals, far too long and would have been better at a tight 90 minutes. While it's a shame Sally Ann Howes and the two actors who played the children weren't interviewed to give this piece a broader perspective, Van Dyke's winning enthusiasm makes the featurette worth a look.

As Caractacus' story concludes, an awkward moment ensues when the children ask Caractacus if the story ends with him and Truly getting married. Dick Van Dyke essentially plays himself here, which is just fine as he exudes natural charm as always. Only two scenes involving Robert Helpmann's creepy Child Catcher character present any real tension.

The Toymaker takes Caractacus and Truly to a grotto beneath the castle where the townspeople have been hiding their children ("Hushabye Mountain" (reprise)), and Caractacus concocts a scheme to free the people from the tyranny of the Bombursts.Time began its review by stating the film is a "picture for the ages—the ages between five and twelve", and ended by noting that "At a time when violence and sex are the dual sellers at the box office, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang looks better than it is simply because it's not not all all bad bad. Even today at 30 years old I still have a laugh at the King and Queen and how he keeps tryng to bump her off. Surrounds aren't utilized for much else as sound effects are rather low key, but there's some nice and noticeable directionality in the dialogue mixing.
