Days Alcohol Free Pale Ale was voted as the best non-alcoholic pale ale in the UK by The Telegraph and in 2023 won gold at the World Alcohol Free Awards. It is light, with good flavour, and none of the unpleasant aftertaste that some low alcohol beers have. This one is the exception though; really full-flavoured, which I think does really help when it comes to making alcohol-free beer. I have been having fun by doing a number of blind tastings at home and Days Lager proved to be my favourite.On the nose we get bready malt, grains and a touch of hoppy floral aroma, which all seems in line with your standard Hallertau-hopped lager. On the nose we get malted grains, caramel sweetness, stone fruit aromas and slight citrus, orange marmalade and grapefruit rind. While reviewing over 120 alcohol free beers here at time of writing, I’ve noticed that the producers of such beverages take a number of approaches to marketing their wares. Rooted in Scotland's rich brewing tradition, they utilise local ingredients, embodying a modern approach to enjoying beer without alcohol's adverse effects. It was a healthy dose of fortune (and the last flight out of London pre lockdown) that led to us brewing our beers at home in Scotland.
