The DS620slim, much like previous Synology slim devices, is a NAS server that aims to give you all the features and functionality of a modern NAS, but in a remarkably compact form. Not small enough to be carried around as a single computer solution (as external drives are smaller, simpler, cheaper and faster) not fast enough to be used as a dedicated NAS in multicomputer network (and there the size does not matter).

If the primary purpose of your NAS is to keep a backup that you from time to time move chunks of data to, from other devices, then the benefit of setting up an SSD cache is minimal.
