It is worth mentioning that I might change my opinion on the characters as time goes on but volume 1 is supposed to be able to pull you in and make you stay and read the whole novel, and vol 1 of 2ha didn't manage to do that for me, most of the characters did not stick with me and I didn't really like them.

Also known as 2ha, the wildly popular danmei/Boys' Love novel series from China that inspired a multimedia franchise! Anyway fact is throughout the entire first volume which is like 500 pages, Mo Ran doesn't change one bit. this is a fantastic novel and one of my favorites by far, but i feel like the beautiful cover and the cute title can be misleading for new readers, so i would like to warn everyone about its contents. But don't be a snob and comment harmful messages under Immortality videos that will steer the audience away because your biased outlook doesn't give you room for anything else.It's hard to say I enjoyed this book, theres ASPECTS of it that I liked but for the most part I did not enjoy it or spent my time reading it rolling my eyes. This Chinese fantasy (xianxia) epic built around the desire between two men (danmei) has been translated into multiple languages and inspired a multimedia franchise in China. Which I don't understand because the most arrogant character in the book is MC, but I guess his flaws can be overlooked because he's the protagonist. I cl**ked that first chapter and like some masochist, I watched the author trample, devour, and shred my heart to pieces before ruthlessly spitting it out as I continued to read on. Wonderful story, the plot is interesting, the knives are sharp, the range of characters is amazing, main cast has its momentum, it's not flat.

The characters are amazing, the story is slowly revealing in the present time, intertwined with the past and the future events that had already happened, and the interactions and relationships because of the timelines are so intriguing! His dream is never described in detail but he tells Mo Ran "Did you know, the most wonderful dreams are rarely ever real? This is a star crossed lovers story with a side of Master/slave kink and I really really love it’s characters and ideas. Not even the translation was able to suppress the masterpiece the writing was, every world an arrow right on the mark.I sometimes wished he'd remember what the MC did to him and run far far away unfortunately I don't think that could ever happen.

The little, tiny things I didn't pay attention to eventually came to bite me in the ass later in the story (just like how Mo Ran's past came back to bite him in the ass, oof). As of November 2023, three volumes have been released with the fourth volume slated for December 2023 release. This novel gave me slight Nabokov's 'Lolita' vibes, because the character was charismatic (or in this case 'dumb husky') enough to get readers to support his relationship with the ML.Mo Ran doesn‘t even try to justify his actions, he immediately admits to his selfish reasons, or he just doesn‘t care. he’d still missed him with an almost physical intensity, like a thousand ants were gnawing on his heart. On the other hand, the themes in this book are ranging from morally questionable to downright disturbing. It’s a 300+ chapter epic that has been adapted into an audio drama, and has a sizable following for it’s angsty narrative, gripping drama and of course, piping hot smut, despite facing the hammer of censorship over it’s explicit chapters. There is nothing so painful as seeing someone kind suffering, and poor Chu Wanning collected all the characteristics needed to feel miserable.
