About this deal

Of course, it's important to bear in mind that there's still a huge advantage when it comes to like-for-like comparisons. The petal-shaped lens hood locks onto the front of the lens, bayonet-style, and adds only about one inch of extra length (and barely any extra width).

Coupled with a lens construction where only two cemented lenses are moved to adjust focus, the Olympus 12-40mm ƒ/2.

Distortion may be a little higher than the Olympus 12mm f/2 but I simply don't use that prime any more since getting the 12-40. It is so convenient to be able to carry a small body, and a couple of small lenses when you compare this to other, more traditional formats. it's razor sharp across the field, with only the very tiniest hint of softness at the extreme edges of the image. Creeping through the undergrowth, ferns brushing the front of my camera, dirt crunching under my feet, stalking, holding my breath… and I have my shot of a tree shooting out of the underbrush in a shaft of light.

With the E-M1 I have never had a problem whatsoever and I have managed to focus even in really dark conditions like a disco. if you're going to play in the pro leagues, you need pro-level glass to match your bodies, and Olympus to their credit realised that. I did many night-shoots over the last weeks and I had pretty much no problems with direct and bright light-sources.It uses a revolutionary new way of arranging imaging elements to let more light in while boosting low light performance. lens on a smaller sensor the 12-40 is not a bokeh bravo but it can still produce nice smooth backgrounds at the longer end, with very little evidence of the 'onion' shapes which often characterise aspherical elements, and none of the nasty jitter that can sometime be seen on the Panasonic 12-35 f2. Off center performance is good enough that I’m not at all reluctant to put subjects well off center.

For sure there is no more stealth factor, as the lens is pretty big, and there are no lens markings for hyperfocal focusing or zone focusing, but there are a few advantages. However, recognising that bokeh evaluation is subjective, we have provided a few examples for your perusal.I have always sang the praises of Micro Four Thirds (M4/3 here on out) because it’s so lightweight, compact and versatile. It’s been around a while, all the specs are online, image by image comparisons are available so I won’t be focusing on those, outside of highlighting them. It's a really neat mechanism and a nice way to add some feel' back into the manual focusing process. Engineered to meet every need of professional photographers, especially together with a compact, lightweight design for stress-free shooting even in harsh weather conditions. Lens construction is 14 elements in 9 groups, including 1 ED Aspheric, 2 Aspheric, 1 DSA (Dual Super Aspherical), 2 ED (Extra Low Dispersion), 1 HD and 2 HR (High Refractive Index).

PRO from Olympus is a wide-to-portrait-length 24-80mm equivalent lens for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras. It seems, that this lens was optimised for close focus and that is the reason why it performs quite well in measurements. This allows easy cleaning with a blower or cloth when it gets dirty, allowing users to continue shooting immediately. As you can see, if you set the lens to the maximum 40mm telephoto focal length, you can actually fill most of the frame.
