About this deal

I was especially interested in reading about her struggle with her lack of sexual attraction, as well as how she enjoys romance when it isn't about her. And I feel even a chapter would have helped at this stage; hitting the ground running makes for a dramatic opening but it’s telling the story the wrong way round. As a very specific gender identity, asexuality feels like the one where people are most likely to offer the most useless advice from either well-meaning ignorance or regular old jerk ignorance.

I still don’t know where my transition will take me: I’m closer to being who I want to be, but I’ve still got a long life ahead of me. Kaina of the Great Snow Sea was the latest televised collaboration between manga author Tsutomu Nihei and CG animation studio Polygon Pictures. Also, I wasn't entirely comfortable with how Yuriko's interest in Gakurouta's one-sided love for Sousuke was written. This perspective piece (and announcement) wouldn’t be complete without thanking each and every team member here at Anime Feminist.Moving from that starting point, this volume suggests that the series will be one filled with love and care. That being said, this was a lot of fun to read and has a lot of potential to be one of the best LGBTQA+ manga to date. These two do indeed make a charming couple but I have so many questions about their futures that I hardly know where to start!

Kaina's closing chapter is hindered by a stereotypical villain and predictable plotting, where the destination was emphasized over the journey. No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins. Platonic Life-Partners: While Yuriko and Gakurouta aren't attracted to each other, they still treat their marriage as a serious partnership and act as a support system to one another.

The hollowed-out husk that was Meru—that was Mercedez but was becoming my new name—was far too flimsy a barrier to content with the world. And in that moment, they felt not a spark but something better: the seed of a friendship, ready to take root and bloom. P.S- I want to thank Goodreads algorithm for actually recommending me this manga in the "recommended" section. I don’t usually quote from publisher’s blurbs, especially when the volume concerned hasn’t yet been published, but my feeling that we needed much more backstory in this volume is obviously going to be addressed in Volume 2 (due out January 2023). Yuriko, an asexual woman, agrees to take a husband to satisfy her parents-which is how she finds herself tying the knot with Gakurouta, a gay man in love with his childhood friend with his own family circumstances.

Granted, it is absolutely possible for someone to be aromantic AND asexual (and it sounds like that's how Yuriko identifies), but the story treats asexuality as both and it isn't. We then get the sense that knowing the book’s true nature, Gaku cannot stop himself from reading it. It is a celebration of self and is intended to provide a ‘hyper-femme space’ away from the imposition of the male gaze.Any love story aficionado will say that the key to a successful couple is intense desire for one another—but what if the characters in question are an asexual woman with a passion for Boys Love stories and a gay man whose heart forever belongs to his oblivious childhood friend? I just wanted the miracle of fitting in: I wanted, much like Yuriko in I Want to Be a Wall, to feel like I was doing the thing that would make everyone happy. Designed and maintained by devoted anime fans, Anime UK News and it’s fledgling forum community is growing with each passing month, proving we are an ambitious and trusted resource for UK-based anime fans and beyond! Yuriko still has amazing relationships with others and her bond that’s beginning with Gakurouta feels so profound.

My forced femininity—brought on by a mingling of hormones in the womb, chronic illnesses that have nipped at my heels, and a desperation to prove that my Fat, Black body could be just as sexually and culturally appealing as any straight-sized white one—was once a wall as well. This is the crux of I Want to Be a Wall’s narrative, a reminder that there are ways to be happy, ways to survive and even thrive in the world when healing is centered, when you no longer are forced to always feel strange. The image illustrates his dismay at missing the chance to practice what he had learned from the book. It’s much like the true meaning of the old adage, “Blood is thicker than water” which is actually “The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb”, a much more encompassing idiom than its often reduced version. Even if I have to keep my feelings hidden,” Gakuratou tells Yuriko later, “I’ll stay by his side as his childhood friend. The artstyle is nice, and the characters are great so far (although I have only found 3 chapters translated. Instead of intense desire and romance, I Want to Be a Wall’s central characters are an asexual woman with a passion for Boys Love (BL) and a gay man whose heart forever belongs to his oblivious childhood friend. As much as it’s not great for them to be forced to be married each other, it is so sweet that they get along with each other!
