About this deal

With almost 200 photos of 42 football stadiums here that have lain unseen, in archives and rarely accessed collections, for decades. These are the places where your grandfather, father, uncles, brothers and friends exulted and cursed.

Squarely aimed at the sports nostalgia market, the book contains around 200 archive photos of team line-ups, action shots, spectators, Sevens tournaments, and the grounds where the game was played. From industrial designer to tour guide to gardener; Alistair’s life has taken him through many twists and turns from his origins in Glasgow until he settled in Arran 20 years ago. As the veteran journalist Chick Young says in the foreword, these are photos of the “good old, bad old days”. Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages. This book on Scottish football grounds is just about ok in that it has old photos of grounds but little or no background to each Club or their Support at the time of the photo.

No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins. At this point, I was actually turning the book 90 degrees to try to work out where things stood then and do now, among numerous images of terraces and stands long gone. Lifted Over The Turnstiles Volume 2 expands and improves upon the first book, showing grounds as they were meant to be experienced, full of supporters cheering their heroes on. On first seeing this book, I worried that it might be another homage to the “golden age” of Scottish football, where everything, invariably, was so much better than it is now. I am willing, of course to pay for copyright and will give credits in the book for the provenance of the photos.

A picture-led record of a man who was the architect of one of the greatest achievements in Scottish football history.
