About this deal

Another thing I really enjoyed was being transported to the seashore Cornish town of Saltwater. The whole atmosphere was well constructed and I felt like I was there – even more so, I want to go there! The eerie vibe of The Anchorage was also masterfully built. The Other Guest has got it all: unexplained tragic death, family secrets, romance, and two women on a quest for the truth. Oh, and as an added bonus, it takes place on a gorgeous lake in Northern Italy, so there’s that too.”– LovetoKnow.com When Callum is upgraded to stable condition, the doctor insists that if he wants to be released from the hospital, it must be to a place where he has help. Joanna feels compelled, out of compassion and the guilt that haunts her, to open her home to him. He accepts. When they talk, Callum is cagey with his answers to her questions. Joanna is certain that he’s lying and trying to avoid talking about himself. What is he hiding, and can she keep his presence in her house a secret? Em has no idea who Laila is, or that she has been watching her and her teenage sons and husband so intently.

Let’s begin at the beginning, shall we? Please note that there will be some low-key spoilers throughout this review.Metcalf, Mitch (August 11, 2017). Negatives aside, I did read the whole story and felt it was readable and an okay story. I just felt a but misguided from the beginning when I expected so much more. felt a little bit let down by this book. The cover and the title really caught my eye, but I didn't really get how they tied in with the book itself. Blake clearly has serious ideas she wants to impart. Far be it from me to criticize that. I will, however, criticize the manner in which she undertakes to present those ideas.

The Guest Book is epic in its scope covering three generations of a larger-than-life, well-to-do American family. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ It is a lot to live up to. When the missteps are never discussed, every descendent is completely unprepared for things to go wrong. The shield of their grandfather is buried with him. Bad things are simply not supposed to happen to a Milton. a b c Metcalf, Mitch (October 24, 2018). "Updated: ShowBuzzDaily's Top 150 Tuesday Cable Originals & Network Finals: 10.23.2018". With his open American face, his frank American voice, one might think to oneself, There walks a good man. A noble man. He appeared dashing and splendid. He had the place and the power to make good, to do good. And he did so. He believed one could do right. He had been raised to expect that one could. His was the last generation for whom those givens remained as undisturbed as a silk purse." In the beginning of the story, it’s 1935. Kitty and Ogden Milton have all the best in life: adorable children, beautiful appearances, and the perfect relationship with each other. A tragedy happens, and Ogden attempts to soothe Kitty by buying an island for her in Maine. A man works up the courage to pull the nuclear option on his marriage only for fate to get in the way and sets him on a new path. An unforgettable love story, a novel about past mistakes and betrayals that ripple throughout generations, The Guest Book examines not just a privileged American family, but a privileged America. It is a literary triumph. Jill and her husband decide to drug their son Ethan's atheist fiancee Lynn at the cottage to perform a baptism. The next day Lynn awakens to discover that her leg has become infected and learns she might lose it.After a short hospital stay she makes a full recovery and accepts the possibility of God. Jill abandons her faith as she believes her prayers went unanswered.

The first introduces readers to Joanna Greenfield, the Head of Counseling Services at the University of Derby in England. She lives with her cat and is recovering from her breakup with Luke, who she had been with for 16 years. It isn’t long before she meets Callum Foley, a bartender, and they go on a first date.

Thank you, Random House UK Vintage, CL. Pattison and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of “The Guest Book” in exchange for an honest review. It was a great read and left me pondering what would I do in each pair of shoes. You’ll be stunned at times when you think you’ve got the picture and outcome sussed. The only reason is a sold 4 stars not 5 was that the police investigation could of been more realistic. There are things around that which would not happen and things missed that were obvious. Aside from that tiny thing it’s a great book to read on holiday (or maybe not a good idea) or anywhere really but be VERY careful who you get to know on your holiday!

That house holds such importance for the family in the present and the future. It’s also where Kitty proclaims something that will never be forgotten, the effects of which potentially rippling down to her grandchildren’s generation. Laila and her husband James have arrived in Greece at a luxury resort for a make or break holiday. After several years of failed IVF treatment, James has said that he can no longer go through the painful process, leaving Laila’s dreams of motherhood in tatters. Both of them know that they have spent the last five years drifting apart, so this break from reality is desperately needed. It is the rare book which spurs me to write a scathing review, and I don’t know if this is so much scathing as it is confused and a little cloudy on the details. I slept on this review, several times. This is therefore the most mild, calm, and generous take on this novel that I could summon. My first reactions, by comparison, were much more … full of feeling. I think that sort of response is a valid one to chronicle, but this being such a considered book, I felt it deserved a considered reply. As soon as they arrive Grace is already unhappy with the gloomy brooding atmosphere of the place and the owners are not helping. They seem somehow wooden and unwelcoming. Charles is loving it though as he remembers Pamela and Michael Jeffrey fondly. Soon, Grace is hearing and seeing things and things go bump in the night in an effort to ramp up the creepiness. It didn’t work for me. Not much actually happened other than a lot of contrived creepiness. Grace seems haunted and Charles is an odd one, he comes across as a bit of a cipher. The Jeffreys are made out to be creepy and the house haunted. And of course the landline is down and the cell phone tower is too so there not only trapped in the town but incommunicado.

Evie can easily laugh at her family's 'WASP culture' history, yet she becomes irritated if anyone else passes judgements on them. And- Despite evidence to the contrary, Evie stubbornly turns a blind eye to the dark secrets hidden in her family’s past. What … maybe … shouldn’t … happen … is letting those characters reach absolution through self-erasure, and have Jews and people of color absolve them again in the book’s touching final scenes. Difficult-to-put down thriller… Brilliantly characterized, boldly plotted, and boasting an ending that readers will think they have figured out only to have everything turned around. The perfect vacation thriller.”– Booklist (starred review) Iannucci, Rebecca (2018-09-19). "TVLine Items: Guest Book Return Date and Cast, Pose Promotion and More". TVLine . Retrieved 2018-10-19.
