About this deal

In supporting Octavian, Antony expected to gain support for his own campaign against the Parthian Empire, desiring to avenge Rome's defeat at Carrhae in 53BC. [94] In an agreement reached at Tarentum, Antony provided 120 ships for Octavian to use against Pompeius, while Octavian was to send 20,000 legionaries to Antony for use against Parthia. Octavian sent only a tenth of those promised, which Antony viewed as an intentional provocation. [95]

Gaius Octavius was born in Rome on 23 September 63BC. His paternal family was from the Volscian town of Velletri, approximately 40 kilometres (25mi) south-east of the city. [14] [15] He was born at Ox Head, a small property on the Palatine Hill, very close to the Roman Forum. In his childhood, he received the cognomen "Thurinus", possibly commemorating his father's victory at Thurii over a rebellious band of slaves which occurred a few years after his birth. [4] Suetonius wrote: "There are many indications that the Octavian family was in days of old a distinguished one at Velitrae; for not only was a street in the most frequented part of town long ago called Octavian, but an altar was shown there besides, consecrated by an Octavius. This man was leader in a war with a neighbouring town ..." [16] Again, no military effort was needed in 25BC when Galatia (part of modern Turkey) was converted to a Roman province shortly after Amyntas of Galatia was killed by an avenging widow of a slain prince from Homonada. [202] The rebellious tribes of Asturias and Cantabria in modern-day Spain were finally quelled in 19BC, and the territory fell under the provinces of Hispania and Lusitania. This region proved to be a major asset in funding Augustus's future military campaigns, as it was rich in mineral deposits that could be fostered in Roman mining projects, especially the very rich gold deposits at Las Médulas. [203] Muziris in the Chera Kingdom of Southern India, as shown in the Tabula Peutingeriana, with depiction of a "Temple of Augustus" ("Templum Augusti"): an illustration of Indo-Roman relations in the period Normally during republican times, the powers Augustus held even after the second settlement would have been split between several people, who would each exercise them with the assistance of a colleague and for a specific period of time. Augustus held them all at once by himself and with no time limits; even those that nominally had time limits were automatically renewed whenever they lapsed. [184] Conspiracy A colossal statue of Augustus from the Augusteum of Herculaneum, seated and wearing a laurel wreath Unlike the Space Marines’ current anti-tankinfantry of choice, Eliminators, the Devastation Squad wear Tacticus rather than heavier Gravis power armour, and seem to come in units of five to ten models.Main articles: Constitution of the Roman Empire and History of the Constitution of the Roman Empire

The illness of Augustus in 23BC brought the problem of succession to the forefront of political issues and the public. To ensure stability, he needed to designate an heir to his unique position in Roman society and government. This was to be achieved in small, undramatic and incremental ways that did not stir senatorial fears of monarchy. If someone was to succeed to Augustus's unofficial position of power, he would have to earn it through his own publicly proven merits. [217] Instead of following Caesar's example and making himself dictator, Augustus founded the 'principate', a system which placed him as the head of state as an emperor but gave the senate some power and influence. It’s a fairly strong saving on this one based on our estimates. Especially when you consider that just 2 days later, the value of everything included is likely to go up.

This is more of an auxiliary box, meaning it will be better for more veteran players to add minis to their collection. If you’re looking to get started with Space Marines, we’d recommend just going with the regular Combat Patrol box. The Brutalis Dreadnought is a close-combat counterpart to the existing Redemptor Dreadnought, though it’s not just a weapons swap – the Brutalis has additional armour plates on its hips, groin, and knees. This could mean extra Wounds or extra Toughness, though GW hasn’t provided any information about game stats yet. With Marc Antony dead and the 'triumvirate' alliance in tatters, Augustus became the most powerful man in Rome. In 27 BCE, the senate gave him his formal name 'Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus' which he would use for the rest of his life. Imperator Caesar Augustus. On 16 January 27 BC, partly on his own insistence, the Roman Senate granted him the honorific Augustus ( Latin: [au̯ˈɡʊstʊs]). Historians use this name to refer to him from 27 BC until his death in AD 14. [11] The name is sometimes given as "Augustus Caesar". [12] [13] The Adeptus Astartes under the leadership of the Primarch Roboute Guilliman are striking out across the galaxy in the Indomitus Crusade. While Abaddon launches his assault with his Arks of Omen, and various xenos races look to destroy the fragile Imperium, the Space Marines hold firm against the terrors of the galaxy! Today, in Strike Force Agastus, we get some new reinforcements to the mighty Adeptus Astartes to expand out the options available to them. In this review and unboxing we’ll be taking a look at all of the kits and seeing how they perform in game too!

Finally (because we just want to focus on new models here, sorry Heavy Intercessor Squad!) let's take a look at the Desolation Squad included with Strike Force Agastus. If you love Space Marines but wish their guns were comically huge and did even more damage, this is the unit for you. Look at the size of this gun in context to the model itself! Absurd! The second settlement was completed in part to allay confusion and formalize Augustus's legal authority to intervene in senatorial provinces. The Senate granted Augustus a form of general imperium proconsulare, or proconsular imperium (power) that applied throughout the empire, not solely to his provinces. Moreover, the Senate augmented Augustus's proconsular imperium into imperium proconsulare maius, or proconsular imperium applicable throughout the empire that was more (maius) or greater than that held by the other proconsuls. This in effect gave Augustus constitutional power superior to all other proconsuls in the empire. [169] Augustus stayed in Rome during the renewal process and provided veterans with lavish donations to gain their support, thereby ensuring that his status of proconsular imperium maius was renewed in 13BC. [167] Additional powers

Review Summary

Also included in this box set are the rules and datasheets for fielding these units (though you'll need the full Codex: Space Marines book to really get them on the battlefield), transfer sheets, and a bit of lore behind the specific Strike Force Agastus (which, in the game's fiction, is a specific strike force of the Ultramarines). Let's take a closer look at each of these new models. Strike Force Agastus - Primaris Lieutenant The Primaris Lieutenant is a flexible lieutenant for your Space Marines army, now with more customizable options than ever. In Roman times, an adopted child had the exact same rights and status as biological offspring. Augustus could thus lay claim to the same divine ancestry as Julius Caesar himself. Venus was associated with dolphins (once myth after all suggests she was born in the sea), and her offspring included, according to some, the divinity Eros, who was known to the Romans as Cupid and by this time often depicted as a chubby little child. At age 12, he gave the funeral speech for his grandmother Julia, his first attempt at public speaking. Since we don’t know the exact retail prices yet for the separate releases, there is a little bit of guesswork here. The new models will also grab a booklet, but that should just be added value as if this comes out before the new Space Marines codex, you’ll actually need rules to use the models (sort of like they did with Shadowspear). Is the Strike Force Agastus Box Worth It?
