When he isn’t go-karting, golfing or playing tennis, Bowser can often be found, kidnapping Princesses. To aid his dastardly deeds, he often zooms around the Mushroom Kingdom in his flying fortress, The Airship. Which acts as inspiration for one of the largest of the newly released LEGO® Super Mario sets. So here’s a hands-on look at set 71391: Bowser’s Airship.

In DK: Jungle Climber, an airship appears as the King Kruiser IV. It resembles a crocodile, and is heavily armed. In the latter stages of the game, the Kongs chase the King Kruiser IV to High-High Island. However, they miss the ship as it passes over the top of the island. In the level Space A Go-Go, Donkey Kong travels out of Planet Plantaen, chasing down the King Kruiser IV. Donkey Kong enters it through a small opening guarded by Kritters. The interior appears similar to the factory-themed levels found in the game. Being partially based on Super Mario Bros. 3, airships reappear in Super Mario 3D Land. These locations are the final levels in worlds 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, S2, S3, S4, and S6. At the end of each of them is Boom Boom, Pom Pom, or both, who must be battled to proceed to the next world.
