About this deal

Androids Are People, Too: They're fully sapient, feel emotions, and form emotional attachments to other beings. But they're constrained by governor modules. Martha Wells is the creator and the author of fictional novel series known as The Murderbot Diaries. The series first got started in 2017 with the debut of the first novel in the series, All Systems Red. In 2018, the second book came out, titled Artificial Condition. The third novel soon followed, titled Rogue Protocol. Next came the fourth novel, Exit Strategy. Before the fifth novel in the series is a short story titled Home: Habitat, Range, Niche, Territory. This is followed by the fifth novel, Network Effect. The sixth novel is titled Fugitive Telemetry, and the seventh novel is titled System Collapse. Books don't make me cry. But reading The Muderbot Diaries and System Collapse is probably the closest I get to crying while I'm reading. The way Martha Wells writes Muderbot never fails to capture things in a way that I've never related to more. From Murderbot's thought patterns to its actions, all just make sense to me in a way I rarely experience.

this is the longest and most satisfying murderbot book, and i'm already looking forward to rereading it. because here's the thing—as much as i love murderbot—how they think, how they fight AND THE FRIENDS THEY MAKE ALONG THE WAY, i get lost sometimes in the sci-fi of it all. and it's no fault of the author—her writing is excellent, she does all the world-building work, and the SF elements are not even that complicated; it is hundo-percent me and my inability to really visualize things i've never seen, and once you throw any kind of technology in there, i'm a goner. Non-Human Non-Binary: Partly organic, but designed and built without sexual characteristics and opting out of the whole business whenever it has to bring up gender in relation to itself. All bots, AI, and bot-human constructs are "it", including the emancipated "free" bots on Preservation. Also, is rather disgusted at the idea of getting human sexual organs. The Virus: The entire colony is infected to various degrees by the alien remnants, and they consciously spread this infection to other humans and machines. I don’t know what’s wrong with me,” I had told Mensah. “I think you might know,” she had said. “You just don’t want to talk about it.”)

Volescu

Machine Blood: Described as leaking “blood and fluid” when injured; presumably the fluid is from their machine parts. Chronic Hero Syndrome: Will help any innocent humans it comes across, whether it originally intended to or not.

I've never really attempted to put into words how much I love The Muderbot Diaries series. Now that I have read System Collapse 2.5 times (the ARC twice and skimmed the finalized version) and had several mental breakdowns about it, I think I at least have a bit of an idea of where to start. Ridiculously Human Robot: Played with. SecUnits' and Bots' physical processes are quite different from humans' (no desires for things like food and sex), but Murderbot and ART both have rather human personalities and a great interest in human media.

Murderbot does not care about humans and just wants to have time alone to figure out who they are. However, when a mission close by goes dark, Murderbot may have to work along scientists to find out what truly happened. Will they get results? Read this book to find out! This Is Unforgivable!: The colonists are reluctant to give up Murderbot's location, until they're told about the implants the Targets are using to assimilate others. The uninfected colonists are furious at the idea that people are being forced to join this 'hive mind' and instantly reveal where Murderbot is likely to be found. i know murderbot is ace AF, but their requisition forms for "increasingly improbable armaments" seem flirty to me in a way that is very sweet, despite all the spikes and guns involved. i'm not sure what the platonic version of flirtation is called, but whatever their relationship is, it's mutual, and they certainly understand and respect each other in a very specific and lovely way. Thanks to NetGalley and Tordotcom for providing me with a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

stars, rounding up (saving that half-star for eventual narration by Kevin R. Free; I can’t wait to hear his rendition of Murderbot/ART banter).

Paying It Forward: The Corporation Rim left their grandparents to die on a failed colony because retrieving them wasn't cost-effective. They were saved by people who rescued them without thought of benefit, and this has left a huge impact on the society they built. and even a bit of action sequence that features the SecUnit performing a vaguely impressive acrobatic feat The narrative is almost entirely from 'Bot's viewpoint, and once we pass through the adolescent scenes into the situational investigation and resolution, 'Bot's voice is far more tolerable. When Wells does add in another voice, I'll confess I was triply impressed by both 'Bot 2.0 and by the newly freed Bot. All three managed a separate voice to my read. Insistent Terminology: It has no weapon systems; it has a "debris deflection system" (which deflects anything it decides to categorize as "debris" by shooting at it.) It has no missiles; it has "exploratory drones" (which can be rigged to explode with enough force to blow up an entire colony.) Tor.com (January 24, 2023). Customer reviews

Humans have a bad tendency to use weapons unnecessarily and indiscriminately. Of the many times I had been shot, a depressingly large percentage of hits had come from clients who were trying to "help" me.)(Another significant percentage came from clients who had just wanted to shoot something when I happened to be standing there.) NEW MURDERBOT!!! As soon as I heard it existed, I headed over to NetGalley to request a copy and here we are!
