About this deal

And then I observed that the new product was distributed by Wella Haircare in CA and was made in Mexico; the former product was made by Nioxin Laboratories in Atlanta in the USA. My recommendation is, if you’re not noticing any adverse effects, to continue use for the recommended 6 months. On the nights when you don’t use the products, you could try a gentle combination like Pura D’Or. And try rubbing in coconut oil with a few drops of peppermint essential oil in (leaving it in as an overnight hair mask) once or twice a week if you can. Or if you want to stop using Nioxin, try these methods anyway to maintain the overall health of your scalp. Have a look at this post on nutrition tips, too, if that’s of any help. I’m 6 weeks into the AIP diet I mentioned and, combined with using Nioxin 3 times a week and a variety of supplements, I’m experiencing regrowth in patches that haven’t seen fuzz for years!

Meanwhile, the cleanser itself focuses on what Nioxin calls “the 3Ds of haircare” – Denisty, Derma and Diameter. Basically meaning that hair strands expand to look bigger than they actually are. Fake it ’til you make it, right?! But one treatment really made a difference – hence the reason for this Nioxin shampoo review. Welcome to Lady Alopecia’s thoughts on Nioxin Second of all, it’s a bit like buying Apple products – once you’re in, it’s hard to get out. You don’t want to keep using it forever but what happens if you stop? There are different kits available. And each purifying shampoo works in a different way, depending on your hair type, the extent of shedding or if you have colored hair.Hi Michele, thanks for sharing your experience and I’m really sorry for the delayed response! I’m also sorry to hear about your trouble with Nioxin…may I ask how long you used it for though? As this is quite a common side effect within the first 2 weeks, while your scalp gets used to the new formula. I’ve heard this anecdotally several times but for those who keep using it, there is a marked improvement after a couple of weeks! With Keranique, I don’t massively recommend it because a) apparantely, a lot of customers are scammed into an autoship programme (see my Keranique post for more) and b) it contians 2% minoxidil, which is quite harsh on the scalp. It has been proven to help hair growth…but actually, essential peppermint oil does the same thing with less side effects! I don’t promote the use of minoxidil myself because I’ve used it in the past and it gave me headaches, heart palpitations and dizzy spells. But I know lots of people do use it (for instance, it’s the main ingredient in Rogaine). For me, I prefer the more natural approach, which is why I like Nioxin…or for something even more chemical free, I’d highly recommend Revita – full post here. Now, don’t get me wrong: searching for thinning hair solutions can get tiring. Expensive. And messy. Panthenol: Panthenol, also known as provitamin B5, is a humectant that helps to improve the moisture content of the hair and scalp. According to a study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Science, topical application of panthenol can improve hair strength and reduce hair breakage. I am so sorry again to hear of your trouble but keep up with the Nioxin (at least it was working until now), see if you can figure out what lifestyle factors might be coming into play and how you might regain some control. If nothing else, rest assured that at least you know that your hair is able to grow again – it might just be in the shedding and resting phase (the telogen phase), which normally lasts up to 3-4 months and during which increased shedding is completely natural. Try not to worry about the hair you’re losing now, you could be growing new hair at the same time, it will just take some time until that becomes apparent. Keep doing what you’re doing, and stay positive if you can!

In a study published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, researchers found that a scalp treatment containing niacin, caffeine, and other ingredients (similar to those found in some Nioxin products) improved hair density and reduced hair shedding in men and women with androgenetic alopecia (male or female pattern baldness). Nioxin products have been the subject of research and discussion among hair care experts and scientists. Here are some examples of what they have to say, along with associated links: Again, thanks so much for your really lovely words. It’s encouragement like this that keeps me feeling more confident and positive as of course, there are down days, too! 🙂 Overall, Nioxin’s unique features, such as its scalp-focused approach, customized systems, scientifically proven ingredients, and multi-step approach, make it a popular choice for individuals looking to improve the health and appearance of their hair and scalp. How to Use Nioxin With the moisture control and sebum-removing qualities that Nioxin products offer, the scalp becomes neither too dry nor too oily. For instance, the scalp and hair treatment that comes with the 3D kit (and is also available as a standalone product) contains sunscreen – so I was free to bare my patches without fear of burning or flaking. 2. Plus, it’s gentle on the shaftOptional) Apply the Nioxin scalp treatment. Some Nioxin systems include a scalp treatment that is applied after shampooing and conditioning. This treatment is massaged into the scalp and left on without rinsing. When my natural hair started to fill in after a few weeks of using Nioxin, I noticed that it was stronger than before my alopecia. Full disclosure? I had already started to notice a tiny white fuzz in my patches prior to using Nioxin. Whether this was a result of my Bali trip, the effects of that snail/coconut potion or the healthier, more mindful lifestyle I adopted when I got home, I can’t say.
