Zpocalypse 2: Defend the Burbs, the sequel to Zpocalypse, is an interesting amalgamation of things.Zpocalypse is one of the games that you either love or hate. Originally developed to assist the designer's daughter with her maths, the game has fantastic learning potential for players. It offers number manipulation skills by stealth rather than in a more traditional overtly "educational" game setting. What was designed with educational intent has become a great game for gamers and their families, and suits more experienced groups as a good warm-up or end of night filler. But we're still not done. Players in the board's three-dimensional water tower can see where zombies will arrive, and can share or not share this information (tension) or lie (talking). There's also the risk that buildings can collapse if players use too many explosives. If Plants v. Zombies was a math game, Fairway’s pretty sure that his kids would be doing college-level differential equations. But alas, it’s not. Enter City of Zombies: The Board Game. Marching zombie hoards are threatening your zombie-fighting, kid heroes. Their only weapon: math. Find out if Fairway solved this one.It’s a very simple game that’s perfect as a starter before a larger game or when you’re bored and have a few minutes to kill. Dawn of the Zeds takes damn near everything zombie-related you could possibly imagine and shoves it into one box. That’s a bold statement but it does it in a way that I’ve never experienced before. Dawn of the Zeds feels like at least six separate games all put into one box and to a certain extent, that’s what they did.
Resident Evil 2 does not hold your hand. I cannot tell you how many times I had to restart. I wasted my ammo, got eaten by zombies, and overall, got ripped apart. That’s okay, though. Now you may think, “Hey didn’t I just read about this game in the previous section?” (Zombie 15’). Although they sound a bit similar, they both play rather differently. Same Same, But Different It’s a fast-paced, real-time, cooperative, dice-rolling game in which you have 15 minutes to gather supplies from the surrounding area, return safely, and then escape. All the while, zombies are spawning around you and attempting to rip apart your safe house. At first glance, it can seem like the humans have all the advantages, and to a certain degree, they do. Zombies move slowly and are easy to kill, whereas the humans have all kinds of fun weapons and toys.
