About this deal

The preamps are remarkably clean and transparent with a gain range of 58dB – enough for most microphones. Notably, there is comfortably enough gain for an SM58, Røde NT-1 and Aston Origin. You can even get a passable level out of the notoriously low-sensitivity Shure SM7B for spoken word, but you do have to max out EVO 8’s input gain. We are delighted to partner with Rational Acoustics in integrating our huge selling EVO 2, 4 and 8 channel audio interfaces into the Smaart v9 platform,” says Audient Marketing Director Andy Allen. “With EVO’s ability to digitally control the interface’s gain, phantom power and polarity via our EVO Control app running on users’ laptops and now with Smaart’s embedded integration, we’re providing a new, intuitive workflow for Smaart users everywhere. Indeed, a Gain Changing solution.”

However, the Gear4music extended warranty scheme provides an enhanced service, and is designed to offer a higher level of protection than many 'free' warranties offered by some retailers and manufacturers. Bigger sessions demand more channels and expanding your existing audio interface via ADAT might be the most cost-effective solution to scale up your studio,” says Audient/EVO marketing director, Andy Allen. “SP8 does exactly that, giving you eight studio quality analogue preamps, a modern and intuitive user experience with exceptional audio performance across the board.” We’re calling it the mic preamp of the future,” says Andy. “Our powerful EVO Mic Preamp technology combines all the sonic advantages of a studio-grade analogue mic preamp with digitally controlled tactile precision, so you can set your gain with pin-point accuracy – right down to the decibel.” EVO Mic Preamps provide 58dB Mic Gain, while its advanced 32-bit converter technology offers 121dB dynamic range. A more angled top would have suited us more, but then the ID range never had this so it’s curious as to why EVO brings this to our attention! Input recording is also exemplary, helped a little with a Smart Gain feature that helps you set levels, although to be fair you don’t really need it as such (see below for more on this).

These utilise some of the technology from those big desks – notably the ASP8024 preamp – for their high-quality sound. At this year’s NAMM show Audient announced the EVO range of interfaces which are not designed to replace the ID range, but more to be a completely new and compact interface solution.

On paper this seemed pretty much perfect- a compact interface with 4 inputs, smart gain, from a seemingly reliable manufacturer and for not that huge of a price! Each of the inputs can handle microphone or line-level signals, all with 48V phantom power for condenser mics. Power to the interface is supplied directly over a USB-C cable, meaning there’s no need for a separate power supply. It is worth noting that if your computer only has the larger USB-A ports, you’ll need to connect via a USB-A to USB-C cable and only be able to use phantom power on two mic inputs. If your computer has USB-C ports, you can use the supplied cable and run phantom power on all four mic inputs simultaneously. Setup is plug-and-play on a Mac with drivers required under Windows, but either way it’s advisable to install the Evo Mixer application, which allows you to do things like set up routing and upgrade firmware. You should get an instant answer on whether your application has been successful, though in some rare cases Klarna or V12 may need to look at the application in more detail.

The EVO interface comes complete with a professional software bundle including premium-grade plugins to get you started straight out of the box. Features Another neat touch is that you can change preamp gain inside certain DAWs, including Logic Pro X, meaning you don’t even have to switch windows to the mixer. Unfortunately, there’s no way to save input levels within your DAW projects, but the Evo mixer software is more than capable. Sound Low-latency, customisable software mixer - route outputs/inputs, apply phantom power, configure headphone mixes, set sound levels and more. As with all EVO products, SP8 benefits from the addition of Smartgain, an innovative and time saving feature which gives the option to automatically set the gain with the touch of a button. “As with EVO 16, EVO SP8 can automatically set the gain for all 8 channels at once,” explains Andy, highlighting the added advantage for musicians who have multiple mic inputs (drummers) or line inputs (synth players).

If an item can not be repaired, a similar alternative product or cash discount (as defined in this policy) will be offeredThe Monitor Mix switch allows you to easily blend your input signal with your DAW output so you can play along and record with your songs The compact and portable design makes the EVO perfect for musicians on the move. Whether you’re recording vocals for your latest song or podcasting with friends on the go, the EVO is the perfect choice. It’s even USB powered, meaning you don’t have to bother with tedious power supplies, just plug it in and you’re ready to go. Please note that this extended warranty is currently only available on products sold within the UK, EU or EEA, and is subject to the terms and conditions as detailed on the extended warranty certificate provided.
