You're something this old world's never seen before. And you're going to change it. Just by being there. So change it for the better. — Jonathan Kent Batman: Last Knight on Earth— Billed as "the last Batman story ever told", Batman wakes up in post-apocalyptic tale where the villains have won. Written by Scott Snyder and drawn by Greg Capullo.

John Romita Jr's artwork and Alex Sinclair's coloring make for some really nice looking imagery in all three books.Synopsis for "Superman: Year One" This article is a stub. You can help DC Database by expanding it.

I used to be a very devoted fan of Miller's, decades ago, but that has decreased quite a bit these last few years. Not only because of his reduced output but the few things he has done just didn't have the edge it used to. In other words, I wasn't that excited to begin with about reading this and the bar wasn't set very high. Yehl, Joshua; Schedeen, Jesse (December 11, 2014). "Injustice: Gods Among Us Comic Writer Tom Taylor Departs, Brian Buccellato Takes Over". IGN. That same month, in the lead up to Marvel Comics #1000, Marvel altered the work of Mark Waid, a long-time writer for the publisher. A text piece written to accompany a Cap illustration by John Cassaday and Laura Martin originally said, in part (per The Hollywood Reporter):Having read many variations of Superman's origin and upbringing, I was curious what new could possibly be added. Now that I've finished it: not much. First of all, any "dangerous" situations that a young Clark is but through has zero drama. We all know he's going to be fine. Well, the art is good. Yeah, I know not the most uplifting of comments to start a review but considering the material, quite apt. So what's the deal? Great question. I am still trying to figure out what I just read.

There’s a couple of scenes in the second issue. I absolutely loved the boot camp and the BUD/S training in the second issue, because I got to reference these heroes. I’m a big fan of the military, and I got a chance to draw San Diego in it. But there’s a scene at the end of the third issue that I get a chance to draw a couple of characters with Superman that is one of the better moments in my career. It’s great, and the choreography of the action is fun, of course. But doing things that I’ve never done before, like boot camp and SEAL training, and the BUD/S training, and playing with that, that these guys don’t know this man’s a super being, except for his drill sergeant, who has an idea there’s something different about this guy. That’s fun to me. Jerry Siegel • Joe Shuster • Mort Weisinger • Wayne Boring • Otto Binder • Al Plastino • Curt Swan • Gerry Conway • José Luis García-López • Elliot S. Maggin • Cary Bates • Batman: Curse of the White Knight— A direct sequel to Batman: White Knight, which was the most recently released graphic novel to be retroactively folded into the label. Written and drawn by Sean Gordon Murphy. Superman: Year One— A retelling of Superman's origin story. Written by Frank Miller and drawn by John Romita Jr.

DC Black Label provides examples of:

The only reason anybody younger than 50 knew who Green Arrow was before Stephen Amell climbed a salmon ladder is due to Denny O’Neil and Neal Adams making him an out and proud liberal who crossed the country with Green Lantern as the “Hard Travelin’ Heroes,” busting bad guys and debating political philosophies along the way. Comics have always gone there. Superman’s initial Year One books were less about his origins and more about introducing other characters and adventures into the new DC continuity. Frank Miller decided to change that with a more recent publication.

The final essay omitted these lines and, as a whole, was more from Cap’s perspective, and considerably more generic and uplifting. Waid later told Newsarama that “the abridged version that’s being circulated by news outlets severely mischaracterizes what was actually written.”And the rest is just rehashing the familiar story: Metropolis, journalism, Lois, Lex, yadda yadda yadda, the end. It’s such a boring book. Action Comics • Superman • Adventures of Superman • Superman: The Man of Steel • Superman: The Man of Tomorrow • Superman/Batman • Other titles... I wanted him to look like a leaner teen, so to speak, and then I immediately got taken to task online. “You have a geeky, skinny Superman? What’s the matter with you, Romita?” I said, “Ma, come on.”
