About this deal

I’m jumping over a lot of details here and over a lot of bloody fighting and explosions, but it slowly becomes clear that a fellowship of seven companions is thrown together in this hostile environment, a brotherhood of the two aspects of the incal artefact [the dark and the light, the yin-yang duality] comprised of John Difool, the talking bird Deepo, the mercenary Metabaron, his son Solune, Tanatah the Queen of Amok, the rebel Kill Wolfhead and Animah the Rat Queen The world of the Incal, the Matterverse, is full of strange technology, astonishing worlds, and extraordinary creations. But where do these things come from? Why, the Psychoverse, of course--a reality of infinite possibility where everything that can be exists…that is, until it is dreamed up in the Matterverse, at which point it is then pulled from one reality into the other. Tired of having their wondrous creations stolen by the Matterverse, agents of the Psychoverse breach the barrier between realities to reclaim their stolen property by force, which means the destruction and reclamation of nearly the entire universe! It is up to John Difool, the Metabaron, Kill Wolfhead, and more to stop the destruction of their entire reality! If only any of them knew the most powerful, primordial forces in either universe was sitting just within their grasp…the Luminous Incal! Deflector Shields: Kaimann activates multiple "hyper-shields" around Tortuga Island to defend from the Gounas but they eventually get through. The Gounas' shields were impenetrable. A mysterious metallic virus has devastated the immense City-Shaft, and John Difool is going to have to once again transform himself into humanity’s improbable savior! The unfinished conclusion to The Incal trilogy as drawn by Moebius. The last cycle of the adventures of John Difool, After The Incal was not yet completed when Moebius stopped working on the series. When Jodorowsky discovered the talent of Jose Ladrönn, he rewrote After The Incal for him, which morphed into Final Incal. In 2014, Humanoids released 7.9 x 10.8" hardcover trade collection of The Incal and its sequels, After the Incal and Final Incal, in one complete collection called Final Incal, as a 9.5 x 12.5" deluxe slipcase hardcover, as well limited and numbered edition 12 x 16" coffee table format. [9] In 2015 they released a 7.9 x 10.8" hardcover trade edition, but without After the Incal. [32] All four volumes were digitally released by Humanoids Publishing in 2014.

The last part of the series, known as the Fifth Essence, is probably as good as what went before, but I was reaching saturation point and the mystical elements such as a tenebrae virus and a theta dream come to dominate the story. Still, the ending was both spectacular, amazingly drawn by Moebius and satisfactory in bringing the complex plot to a logical conclusion. After escaping the aftermath of a butchered job, he encounters a Berg, a member of an once imperial alien race that has now passed into myth. The Berg reveals that it had been looking for him and entrusts him with a mystical object, the Light Incal. This naturally makes Difool the target of multiple interplanetary factions that seek to use the artifact's powers for their own goals, not the least of which include the Incal itself.

So, The Incal is the start of the whole Metabarons universe. We follow the misadventures of a low rather private eye caught into events bigger than himself. Is it good ? Yes, it’s written by Jodorowski. Is it well drawn ? Yes, it’s drawn by Moebius. So, I finally get to read those classics of French sci-fi thanks to an Humble Bundle from Humanoids.Between 2002 and 2004 the six issues were digitally recolored by Valérie Beltran (Studio Beltran), significally changing its aesthetic by favoring a more "modern" look. Nowadays these editions are out of print, and the original coloring (restored by Léonor Pardon) is used instead.
