About this deal

Other summaries give you just a highlight of some of the ideas in a book. We find these too vague to be satisfying. There are 6 components to running a business. That's what the book is focused around. It's all great stuff. But, as a practical matter the biggest/most notable changes to our business have been: Level 10 Meetings – “a weekly meeting with a specific agenda designed to help you stay focused on what’s important, solve issues effectively, and keep your team connected”

Gino Wickman Welcome - Gino Wickman

Core Focus – “defines what you are as a company to help you avoid “shiny stuff” and keep you focused on the areas where your business excels;” derived from the intersection of knowing: You can’t be the one deciding and doing everything. Build a real leadership team—hire people who’re better than you, give them control and responsibility of specific areas, and present a united front to the rest of the organization. Life becomes less stressful. When you have unresolved long term problems + projects you have been meaning to get around to + new ideas+ daily fires, you deal with the fires first. And, if you are like me, you feel tremendous pressure to resolve everything immediately so that it will get done and not evaporate in to the shadow of a good idea you can vaguely remember. With EOS, we say "Put it on the list." Then, we prioritize those issues each quarter. This means that I no longer feel as much pressure because I trust the EOS system to prioritize issues and projects on a quarterly basis. I also think that to scale up a business’ growth, profits, and create sustainable success, higher level strategies need to be put in to play. This is just because a business operating at a higher level is ready to use more impactful tools. When everyone follows their process, it’s much easier for managers to manage, troubleshoot, identify and solve issues, and therefore grow the business. The clear lines of process enable you to let go and gain more control.”

Why Rocks Rock

How to Be a Great Boss ( book summary): Helps leaders and managers at all levels of an organization get the most from their people.

Traction: Get a Grip on Your Business eBook : Wickman, Gino

Discuss: The discussion step is where everyone gets a chance to weigh in. Many teams flounder at this step because they didn’t identify the real issue first. They talk a lot without solving anything. Ensure that everyone follows the processes: As the company’s leader, make clear your expectation that everyone, including your leadership team, will follow the processes. All entrepreneurs and business leaders face similar frustrations: personnel conflict, profit woes, and inadequate growth. Decisions never seem to get made, or once made, fail to be properly implemented. But there is a solution. It’s not complicated or theoretical. Issues – the list of problems that will prevent you from reaching your goals; organized and documented on company-wide Issues List for transparency In Traction, you'll learn the secrets of strengthening the six key components of your business. You'll discover simple yet powerful ways to run your company that will give you and your leadership team more focus, more growth, and more enjoyment. Successful companies are applying Traction every day to run profitable, frustration-free businesses—and you can too. I'm using my review and my rating. Having gone on to read other Organizational design and startegy books, I see some of the big shortcomings of this book. It's very formulaic in it's approach. It approaches an organization as a linear "machine" that can be controlled rather than seeing it as it really is: a complex adaptive system that can only be "nudged" and learned about (like a garden). Step 4: Determine who will update the spreadsheet each week for senior leaders to review at a regular meeting. Determine how the person will get the numbers from each leadership team member.
