A new firmware update is ready for your Stealth 600 Gen 2 for PlayStation ®! Connect your headset to the Turtle Beach Audio Hub program on your PC or Mac to update your device’s firmware to version (v.1.2.4). You can simply just use the USB port and select Game and Chat on the PS4 menu. Using this method, you will still get both game audio and chat audio. However, you will no longer have independent control of game audio and chat audio levels.

The Turtle Beach Audio Hub mobile app for iOS and Android has received an update to 3.14.6 (192) for iOS and 3.14.6 (223) for Android. While the Elite 800 isn’t as stylish as wireless headsets from Bose and Parrot, it’s a big improvement on previous attempts from the company and gaming headsets in general. It’s clearly been been inspired by Beats Studio Wireless headphones, sharing very similar headband, ear cup and cushioning design, although they sadly don’t fold up in the same way. The Elite 800X also offers virtual surround sound when you’re using the transmitter with a Dolby Digital signal. Whether you like it is a matter of personal taste — we found DTS Headphone:X 7.1 works best in action movies where you really want that wide sound stage. Some gamers may also like the fact that they can pinpoint gunfire or incoming grenades using the virtual surround modes. However, we thought the Elite 800X sounded best in its standard stereo setting when combined with Turtle Beach’s “Signature” sound preset. Bluetooth range is good, if not exceptional — we were able to get around 20 feet away from our Macbook Air without the audio breaking up. Battery life of 10 hours is more problematic — competing headsets such as the Mad Catz F.R.E.Q. 9 go up to 20 hours, doubling this performance. After charging the headset overnight, we encountered the “low battery” warning at around 7pm, which isn’t ideal for those who use their headphones all day.

The Elite 800s are completely wireless, communicating with a base station that plugs into your console rather than trailling wires across your living room.Wireless range used to be an issue with older console gaming headsets, but we had no trouble moving around the room. Audio never dropped out and sound quality never faltered, even eight feet away from the base unit. You can’t roam around the house and stay connected, as walls will diminish the signal rapidly, but even if you go out of range it connects automatically as soon as you get close enough. If you want to pair the 800X with a Bluetooth device such as a phone, tablet or laptop, there’s a Bluetooth button on the side of the headset that you hold down to pair. Your device should see the headset, and you’ll be able to use it for both voice and audio, so you can answer calls and listen to music. If your device doesn’t have Bluetooth (and at this stage it’s pretty much just the 3DS that falls into this category), then you can connect the 800X using a good old fashioned 3.5mm audio cable.The company has created high-end gaming headphones before, including its most recent “Seven” line. It’s also made high-end wireless portable headphones for more general lifestyle use, like the i30. The Elite 800 aims to combine both these functions into one headset–one that can be used for gaming at home and then taken out of the door for listening to music on-the-go.
