This book is an amazing catalogue of work that Syd Mead has done - I just wish it went in to more depth but then again is that not the sign of a great book that what ever they give you are left wanting more. Read it, or don't, to make up your own mind on the words, but don't miss out to immerse yourself in the brilliant illustrated multiverses of Syd Mead's mind. It is this ability to predict technological potential that has helped Mead create such a distinctive and influential aesthetic.SYD MEAD PROGRESSIONS” a traveling one-man-show of his work, is now in the planning stage to mark the 40th anniversary of his work. In 2004, Mead co-operated with Gnomon School of Visual Effects to produce a four-volume "how-to" DVD series titled Techniques of Syd Mead. Syd Mead was asked if he wanted to help out on a film – and became one of the most revered ‘futurists’ in cinema, helping define the look of classic sci-fi movies such as Blade Runner, Aliens and Star Trek: The Motion Picture. I'd assume these were just barely covered because of competing volumes and licensing issues, but the omissions were glaring. In 2006, I was invited to do a talk and a demo in Los Angeles, and I had the combined privilege and bad luck to have my demo scheduled just after Syd Mead’s talk.
