Tyler the FurReal Tiger is really adorable with his big blue eyes and the motions he makes to drop down and look up at you. Read on to find out whether I think the FurReal Tiger was a big hit or big miss before spending any of your precious moolah.

My nephew was scared of him, and it took awhile for him to warm up to him…something to keep in mind depending on your child’s temperament. A few weeks ago we reviewed the FurReal Chatty Charlie the Barkin’ Beagle which is now one of Little Man’s most prized possessions – he loves him dearly.With so many awesome animals to choose from, it’s easy to build a collection of pals for even more epic adventures. The children love that Tyler roars when they roar at him but they have to roar loudly for him to respond. This dog has a leash that can be detached to walk him across the floor as well as a connection to add up to two other Walkalots dogs. He’s turned into a real part of our family and he’s often found sitting with the kids, snuggling up and watching TV with them.

You’ll find the Furreal tiger reset button on his back, so if he’s in sleep mode this will wake him up. I would say that between the ages of 4 and 6 would be the sweet spot with the younger side being the best (I do think that kids younger than 4 would enjoy this too, but since the manufacturers states 4+ on the package, I won’t recommend that to you explicitly). As far as I can tell, the age restriction is more based on his size and ability for your child to interact than any choking hazards. The FurReal Tiger responds to over 100+ sound and motion combinations, and he also comes with a squeaky toy rubber chicken that he responds to as well.

Commercials and press releases from this era emphasized the realism of the toys and frequently compared them to real pets. He is fairly heavy at about 4 pounds total, and even though he is covered in a soft fur, there is clearly a lot of plastic underneath, so I wouldn’t describe him as plush.Many of the models were designed to provide a realistic pet experience to consumers, without the complexities of actually caring for one. It has pose-able legs and a soft fur covering makes him more pet like than other plastic options out there. The children loved that if they rubbed Tyler’s back or head he would almost purr and make happy noises.

Use accessories to feed and entertain your FurReal Friends during the day, then snuggle up with plush FurReal Cubby the Curious Bear at night for sweet dreams together. In 2023, Hasbro signed a master licensing agreement with Just Play, permitting the company to take over the FurReal brand. Compared to other FurReal toys, the Furreal Friends tiger pet moves quite a lot with different motion combinations and is very animated. It can scare the carp out of you if you walk into a dark room and Tyler starts roaring or purring (It reminded me of the Furbys we had when we were growing up that would not stop talking. If you’re looking to get your child an interactive toy that can be just like a real exotic pet for them then the Fur Real Roarin’ Tyler, the Playful Tiger from Hasbro would be a great investment and a lovely addition to a gift list.

On to what my final review of the FurReal Tiger…I have to say it is kind of a mixed bag on this one. During this time, the brand also began to release toys that were not modeled after real-life animal species.
