As we noted last week, the new Universal Monsters movie Renfield is now filming in New Orleans – a fact that the Official Universal Monsters Instagram account celebrated by sharing an image of the clapperboard being used on set, revealing that Renfield has a logo that matches the font used on a classic poster for the 1931 Dracula (watch it HERE)!

IMP Awards got their hands on some international character posters, but they are insanely basic looking–this movie has potential; it just seems like no one knows how to tap it on the promotion side. This may be all good clean comedy-horror fun, but more unintentionally stomach-turning is Renfield’s carefree depiction of gun violence in a period when real-life US shooting deaths are soaring. Dracula’s grotesque visage – decaying in reverse as he gathers strength – is a prosthetics triumph, and in one fight scene our hero rips an opponent’s arms from his torso then uses the severed limbs as clubs to batter his next victim. Based on a treatment written by The Walking Deadcreator Robert Kirkman, Renfieldis being directed by Chris McKay ( The Tomorrow War) from a screenplay by Ryan Ridley ( Rick and Morty).In 2020, Leigh Whannell's The Invisible Man became a commercial and critical success for Universal and served as a relaunch to its monster universe. Instead, he’s spent the past century as Dracula’s grotesque familiar, gobbling insects for breakfast and sourcing new meat for his master. Rebecca appears and finds Renfield surrounded by dead bodies, causing her to arrest him until she is swarmed by corrupt police officers and the Lobos, who also want revenge on Renfield. Ninety years later, Renfield has grown weary of bringing victims to Dracula as well as the latter's abuse.
