During his prison stints, Sykes met the notorious Charles Bronson, and he left quite the impression. You’d be forgiven for thinking Sykes’ upbringing was far from desirable when you consider how he once described being put behind bars. Much travelled in the UK Prison 25 transfers in 20 years to three prison regions, eleven prisons and three special wings. And in the Paul Sykes: At Large documentary, the tension between Sykes and his father was often explored. Some light wear to covers and spine, mainly edges and corners, internally in good condition, pages crisp and clear.

And the adaptation is being undertaken by Welsh director Vaughan Sivell, through Western Edge Pictures - the same director and production team that made the 2015 boxing documentary Mr Calzaghe. Sykes died at the age of 60 in March 2007 at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield after suffering from pneumonia and liver cirrhosis. His boxing career concluded two years after it began and it included a failed attempt at becoming the British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion. One of the most bizarre stories Sykes enjoyed to tell was his apparent encounters with sharks during his travelling days. Sykes was a drunken thug who spent much of his life in prison, but his book is nevertheless the work of a sensitive and intelligent man.
