I think there is strength in Emma wanting to remain sane to be able to focus rather than be a constant sobbing mess.

I was so enthralled with this entire book and pretty much binged it since I didn’t want to put it down. Emma is aware that her body has changed over the years and she’s no longer the young women Rainier (Rain) first met.I had the IMMENSE pleasure of being one of the first beta readers to get my hands on this debut novel from Jess. The world building, politics/religion between kingdoms and the magic is all done really well sometimes I find that the first book in a series can be a bit information overload but thought Jess Wisecup struck the balance just right in my opinion (silly point but there’s no map in the opening pages which I enjoy but hardly a massive point). It didn’t seem to grip me at all and I feel like her trying to save her daughter was kind of overruled by her relationship with Rain. Emmeline believes her daughter, Elora, is the Beloved—the conduit with goddess-granted divine abilities prophesied to bring peace to the Three Kingdoms.
