The two clubs first met in a competitive fixture in 1908 when both sides were in the Southern League [94] The club's traditional rivals are fellow Devon sides Exeter City and Torquay United; other less intense rivalries exist with Swindon Town, Portsmouth, Bristol City and Bristol Rovers.
