Description

Like any custom build, properly building a Baja bug requires significant investment. Here are typical ranges: To upgrade a standard Volkswagen Beetle to a Baja Bug, there are a number of modifications to be made. The vehicle you see here is a 1970 Volkswagen Beetle that’s been modified into an excellent example of a classic Baja Bug. Included in the box is the buggy itself (shipped with the battery already installed), an optional rear wing and fixing kit, USB battery charger, antenna tube, manual and transmitter. All that is needed to get driving are 4xAA batteries for the radio controller. The interior of this Baja Bug is well-appointed, it even has a stereo system and air conditioning to make those desert races downright luxurious.

For those looking to race their Baja Bug, this class offers the least expensive way to do it in terms of modifications. But some owners actually replace the engine with an aftermarket unit that provides more power and reliability, such as one from Chevy or Honda.Custom Body Work: Fender flares allow the wider tires to fit. Roof “chops” lower the center of gravity. Added lights improve visibility. suspension travel may require cutting away body parts. Bright paint and graphics amp up the style. Baja Bugs originated in Southern California in the late 1960s as an inexpensive answer to the successful Volkswagen-based dune buggies of the mid-1960s, especially the Meyers Manx. [1] A Baja Bug is defined as a custom-built VW Beetle-based vehicle designed for racing or spirited driving off-road. The first Baja Bugs began appearing in the USA in the 1960s, with their designs characterized by their modified front and rear fenders, significantly lifted suspension, larger wheels and tires, and other modifications for off-road use. We really like the detail that BSD have put into the body, you can easily strip the lexan body parts off to expose the tubular-style frame. The faux headlights and rear wing are also removable for a mad-max style bare-frame racer. The included transmitter is small enough for teenagers or older children and the performance of the buggy itself is suitable for that age range. Overall the buggy would be suitable for teens (or used when supervised with older kids) as a first step into RC. It has enough power to entertain, albeit in a rather short burst due to the limited capacity of the included battery (easily and inexpensively remedied).
